The History of Ephrata National Bank
When a group of Lancaster County neighbors came together in 1881 to found Ephrata National Bank, they had a simple idea: their community deserved a bank that understood it. A place where families could save, businesses could grow, and decisions were made by people who actually lived here. More than 140 years later, that idea still drives everything we do.
Our headquarters on East Main Street has anchored the heart of Ephrata since 1925, when the building, designed by renowned architect C. Emlen Urban, first opened its doors. It’s more than an address. It’s a reminder of where we came from and who we’re here for.
No one embodied that spirit more than J. Harry Hibshman. Over the course of more than 70 years, Hibshman shaped ENB into the bank it is today — guiding it through decades of change while never losing sight of what mattered most: the families and businesses of this community. His legacy lives on through the J. Harry Hibshman Scholarship Fund, which has helped generations of Ephrata High School students take their next big step.
Today, ENB is still independent, still local, and still focused on one thing – helping the people of Lancaster County feel confident about their finances and their future.
